Favorite baby pictures: Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands.
L-R: Beatrix & Juliana; Beatrix in the arms of Grandma Queen Wilhelmina, with Grandma Princess Armgard and Mama Princess Juliana looking on. The picture was taken by Papa Prince Bernhard; Beatrix & Juliana.
On 20 October 2013, Princess Estelle was at the Royal Tennis Hall with her parents, attending the finals match between Grigor Dimitrov and David Ferrer. This was her second live sports attendance, after the Ski Championships at Val di Fiemme earlier this year.
Attentive most of the time, she sat through the whole two hours match and watched papa Prince Daniel handing the huge winners’ trophy to first-time winner Dimitrov. Could they be raising the next generation of Royal tennis enthusiast?
Princess Lilian, Duchess of Halland
Before, Princess Lilian was honorary member of the Royal Tennis Club and the most prolific royal attendee at Stockholm Open, giving out prizes to the winners along the years. Pictured here was one of her last public attendance at the Open, in 2006, accompanied by the tennis legend Björn Borg.
I think Princess Lilian would’ve loved to have Estelle watching a match with her.
Kings of Sweden: The Gustafs
Estelle’s great-great-great grandfather, the tall and lanky King Gustaf V enjoyed tennis so much he not only opened Sweden’s first tennis club, he was even a legit professional tennis competitor. He represented Sweden in many matches, playing under the gangsta name of Mr. G.
He was the first royal inductee into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
King Gustaf’s son, Gustaf VI Adolf was a good tennis player too. Though he did not compete professionally, he did enjoy playing the occasional match at the Royal Tennis Hall. As pictured here (last picture), taken in 1950.

Prince George was christened on 23 October 2013 at Chapel Royal, St. James Palace, and then had his picture taken for the official photographs. This one is him with his Great Grandmother, the Queen; his Grandfather, the Prince of Wales; and his dad, the Duke of Cambridge.
I think, the last time we had a four-generation photograph of a monarch and three heirs was during Carl XVI Gustaf’s christening on 7 June 1946 at the Royal Chapel at Stockholmslott.
Here is little Carl XVI Gustaf, born Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus, in the arms of his Great Grandfather, the King Gustaf V; his Grandfather, the Crown Prince Gustaf VI Adolf (also seated); and his father, the Duke of Västerbotten. [watch the footage here, around the 3:30 mark]
Very testosterone-laden, somewhat abetted by more bling than your average debutante ball.
On May 22, 2012, Princess Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary of Sweden was christened at the Royal Palace Chapel in Stockholm, Sweden. She was born on February 23, 2012.
Her godparents are Prince Carl-Philip of Sweden (Victoria’s brother), Anna Westling Söderström (Daniel’s sister), King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.
just to add, the full video of the ceremony:
my favorite things: the light and airy chapel, perfect for a christening; the song that was sung at Victoria & Daniel’s wedding. their love has come full circle in Estelle (and many more kids I hope); the tenderhearted priest, and the calmness with which Estelle took the whole thing; and Willem-Alexander! how cute is he?
